Why We Call Ourselves "Safe Operations"
The reason that the word “Safety” does not appear in our company name is
because the word has been used, in reality, over used to the point of
meaninglessness. To many
workers in our get-it-done industry it conjures up mental pictures of
some safety person, in head office, who is unfamiliar with the field
imposing more paperwork and actually thinking it will make for a safer
workplace.
Since Bill C-45 became law in 1985 safety has been departmentalized and
in many cases “silo-ed” away from operations.
Taking on an entity of its own; separate and aloof from
operations. It really cannot
nor does it actually exist independent of operations.
There is no such thing as safety, by or of itself; only safe
operations.
The new challenges facing the energy sector regarding the health and
welfare of its workers, the public, and the environment can be dealt
with most effectively by using a new management of change perspective –
Safe Operations.
